Hallmark’s newest Countdown to Christmas movie, “Three Wisest Men,” is finally here! The third installment in the fan-favorite franchise premieres on Saturday, November 15 at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central, with encores airing throughout the season. Starring Tyler Hynes, Paul Campbell, and Andrew Walker, this movie continues the story of Hallmark fans’ favorite trio. Read on to learn all about where the movie was filmed and see fun behind-the-scenes stories from the cast.
‘Three Wisest Men’ Was Filmed in British Columbia, Canada
“Three Wisest Men” was filmed in the Vancouver region of Canada (primarily Langley), just like “Three Wise Men and a Boy.” Filming wrapped on August 29, and production manager Rob Lycar posted a sweet video commemorating the production.
Margaret Colin told Digital Journal that filming this trilogy “taught me that I really like going away to work in Vancouver… I have a new appreciation for the stereotypical niceness of Canadians.”
Another filming location was in Abbotsford, the tourism department shared on Instagram. According to Abbotsford’s website, by the end of October 41 productions had filmed in the city and brought $2.1 million to the community. Over 204 days, more than 97 locations served as filming spots.
Miles Marthaller shared a photo of his “happy place in between takes” during filming. Campbell replied, “This was MY happy place between takes. I love that little stinker.”
Hynes revealed on Instagram that a lot had to be cut from the broadcast version of the film due to time constraints, including “lots of our favourite scenes,” but an extended cut will air the next day on Hallmark Plus.
“Finales are always challenging,” Campbell told Us Weekly. “They’re always polarizing… I think once we got on set, we … just got lost in the joy of making the movie. I’d be lying if I said we didn’t shed a little tear … in our little group hug in the final cut after the final scene.
“It felt epic, it felt daunting, it felt exciting…” Hynes told Us Weekly. “In this life if you can make good things with good people, you’ve done it.”
Margaret Colin told Digital Journal that she loved filming this third movie: “It was joyful, wacky, and it just feels like I’m getting away with murder,” she joked. “…When they’re goofy, they make me laugh really hard.”
Meet the Cast
Hallmark’s synopsis reads: “The Brenner family is back, and their lives are more chaotic than ever! As Luke (Walker) is expecting twins, Taylor (Hynes) is debating a monumental job opportunity out-of-state, and Stephan (Campbell) attempts to plan for his upcoming nuptials, everyone’s stress heightens when they learn their mom (Colin) has put their childhood home up for sale, marking their final Christmas in the Brenner house. With unexpected in-laws visiting, wild animals lurking in freshly cut Christmas trees and a hesitant mall Santa, the boys will have their work cut out for them as the holiday begins to loom. As they navigate adulting at a level they have yet to reach, they must learn to once again lean on one another to rise to the needs of their growing family, conquer the newest challenges in their lives and, most crucially, have the best Christmas EVER!”
