The two main stars of Netflix’s 2024 Christmas rom-com “Hot Frosty” have reunited for a festive microdrama with a twist.
Lacey Chabert, 43, and Dustin Milligan, 40, played widow Kathy Barrett and Jack Snowman — a literal snowman who magically came to life to counter Kathy’s loneliness — in the highly-rated goofy holiday offering, but they’re back together for an unusual Yuletide production in 2025.
A trailer for the duo’s five-part Christmas adventure was released yesterday, and all fives episodes have been exclusively revealed by People.
‘Maybe This Christmas’ Is a Maybelline Production
The 60-second trailer for “Maybe This Christmas” was uploaded to Maybelline’s YouTube channel, as the five-part microdrama has been made for the popular cosmetic company’s Christmas marketing campaign by Ryan Reynolds’ entertainment company, Maximum Effort.
It’s about two flirty neighbors, played by Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan, whose romance takes an unexpected turn.
A dramatic voiceover in the trailer says, “This holiday season, she’s concealing something — and he really loves hot cocoa.”
That’s followed by Chabert saying, “Maybe this Christmas will be different. Maybe, just maybe, I can conceal who I really am.”
Working With Milligan Again Was ‘A Dream’ for Lacey Chabert
GettyLacey Chabert explained why she did the five-part microdrama, detailing how she loves Christmas stories, Maybelline products, and, of course, Dustin Milligan.
Chabert said, “Everyone knows I love telling holiday stories so much, it’s such a huge part of my life. This is a fun little wink to the genre. It’s light and whimsical, and I love that it has a cheeky twist.”
The actress continued, “The chance to collaborate on a product that I actually love and then to do that with Dustin was really just a dream. I had such a lovely time with him on Hot Frosty last year, and this was such a fun way to tell a holiday story in a new format and to get to be together for a day on set.”
She went on, “You don’t need me to say the words ‘Queen of Christmas,’ but I will, and I did. Any opportunity where you get to reunite with somebody that you enjoyed working with and actually had an element of joy in the work process, it’s so rare. But then to have that paired with actually doing something and telling a story wherein you get to play with some of the narrative expectations to then land on that twist at the end, to me personally, just selfishly, that brings me even more joy.”
Milligan also had his say on his experience filming the scenes for “Maybe This Christmas” and told People, “I do remember just being like, ‘I hope they use these because this is so ridiculous.”
Chabert chimed in again, “It’s nice when you’re on a set that is so playful. We understood the assignment of this… and the more playful, the better.”
